Special Educational Needs & Disabilities

All schools have a similar approach to meeting the needs of pupils with Special Educational Needs and are supported by the Local Authority to ensure that all pupils, regardless of their specific needs, make the best possible progress in school. All schools are supported to be as inclusive as possible, with the needs of pupils with a Special Educational Need/s being met in a mainstream setting wherever possible, where families want this to happen.

Objectives Of Our SEND Provision

Special educational needs and disability (SEND) places a strong emphasis on setting suitable challenges for all pupils, stressing the importance of responding to pupils needs and overcoming potential barriers to learning for individuals and groups of pupils.

We also ensure as an academy, that pupils with SEND can not only access the curriculum but fully participate in it and achieve at appropriate levels.

We believe that all children at Telscombe Cliffs are special. We monitor the progress of each child regularly to ensure that we are meeting their needs.

If your child needs extra support to access part of the curriculum, we will design a Support Plan. The class teacher and Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator (SENCO) use this to record how we will support your child.

We work together with parents or carers to make every child feel successful.

If you agree, sometimes we bring in experts such as:

  • educational psychologists
  • behaviour support services
  • speech and language therapists
  • learning support services

Our approach to SEN follows the SEN Code of Practice.
